Here are this week’s links to a few good stories that we found and selected because we feel they might add valuable insights and perspectives for small to medium size businesses.

  • For those who have hired household employees (babysitters, caretakers, house cleaners, etc.) special care should be taken to ensure compliance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations. If more than $1,900 was earned by a household employee in 2014, it makes the recipient of these services an employer.  Each year, the (IRS) is increasingly cracking down on violators. Stephen Moss of Belfint Lyons & Shuman, CPAs explains more in The Nanny Tax, which is posted on the JDSupra website.
  • The big influence for majority of small business in 2014 was customer care and understanding. So says Alex Ivanovs, writing for the Huffington Post. On this, I heartily agree. What makes the article worth a good look is that he delves into tools that the small business community is likely to take advantage this year in 12 Small Business Tools for Smooth Sailing in 2015. I have found Trello quite useful, but I am certainly going to check out the other eleven that until now, I knew little about.
  • As the New England Patriots prepare for the Super Bowl, (and hopefully postpone the “Deflategate” controversy for a while), they follow the “Do Your Job” mantra of head coach Bill Belichick. Cord Himelstein of Michael C. Fina, writing for TLNT gives a nice shout out to the leadership qualities of the legendary coach in Bill Belichick’s Super Bowl-Winning Philosophy:  Just Do Your Job.
