Here are this week’s links to a few good stories that we found and selected because we feel they might add valuable insights and perspectives for small to medium size businesses.
- If you have workers classified as independent contractors, make sure you follow the rules. Congressman Joe Courtney (D-CT) is co-sponsoring the Payroll Fraud Prevention Act of 2014, which could bring a penalty of $5,000 per violation to employers who incorrectly deem certain workers as “non-employees”. To learn more, read Working Together written by Pullman and Comley, LLC and posted by JDSUPRA Business Advisor.
- As we honored the fathers among us this past Sunday, it brings to mind an age old question for small business owners – Should dads and kids work together? Geoff Williams, writing for American Express Open Forum thinks so. He gives some good reasons as to how it could work in 3 Reasons Dads and Kids Should Start a Business Together.
- Lastly, I would like to give a shout out to the good folks at U.S. Payment Services, Inc. They have made it their mission to hire veterans and in partnership with the Boston Red Sox have been instrumental in the Wounded Warrior Project. If you have a need and a veteran can fill the role, you will have the honor of having an employee who lives the meaning of commitment. Think about it.
