Here are this week’s links to a few good stories that we found and selected because we feel they might add valuable insights and perspectives for small to medium size businesses.

  • The drug store chain CVS made headlines recently when it implemented a controversial policy to promote employee wellness.  Vadim Liberman writing for TLNT dissects the issue in The Wrong Way to Promote Employee Wellness.  He feels that the company was guilty of poor marketing and if they chose to “hand out carrots” to their employees rather that “striking them with sticks”, there might not have been any uproar.  We tend to agree.
  • Lauren Simonds, writing for Time Small Business  posted an interesting article on how building good customer relationships will set you apart from the competition.  Cultivate Customer Connections and Grow Your Business includes some good suggestions on using social media as an effective client relations tool.
  • Lastly, given the complexity of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) , delays in implementation have been expected by many.  Last week, it was announced that the Small Business Options Program (SHOP) will be delayed until 2015.  Kelly Kennedy, writing for USA Today gives an overview of the decision and its potential impact on the small business community in Feds delay small-business health care program.
