Here are this week’s links to a few good stories that we found and selected because we feel they might add valuable insights and perspectives for small to medium size businesses.

  • It’s that time of year when we resolve to always get better at something.  In some form, productivity seems to make its way near the top of the list.  Tim Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Workweek:  Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere and Join the New Rich, is highlighted in Jenna Goudreau’s article written for Business Insider entitled Tim Ferriss’s Top 3 Productivity Tips For Small Business Owners. I am particularly moved by his statement that says in part  “…if you’re undifferentiated in a crowded market, it’s going to be a race to the bottom, in terms of lowering prices and increasing hours per week…”  I haven’t read the book yet, but it is on deck on the Kindle.
  • Speaking of productivity, Ilya Pozin, writing for Inc. Magazine shares thoughts in 5 Things Zapping Your Company’s Productivity.  While I think the article makes some good points, I feel that the value of advice varies depending on the product or service your business provides.  While one size does not fit all, it still is an interesting read.
  • Lastly, and in keeping with the spirit of the holidays, Lance Haun, writing for TLNT writes a humorous yet compelling story in how to deal with the holidays in Don’t Be a Scrooge – Learning to Enjoy The Holidays As a Manager.  Although written from a Human Resource Manager’s perspective, it can apply to anyone in management.
