Here are this week’s links to a few good stories that we found and selected because we feel they might add valuable insights and perspectives for small to medium size businesses.

  •  According to the Wall Street Journal, offering a robust employee benefits package is at the top of the list to improve employee retention.  In How to Retain Employees a list of suggestions are well worth a look.  One I particularly like is the suggestion that managers conduct “stay” interviews with long term employees.  We learn much from exit interviews, but learning why employees stay can be quite useful.
  • Lauren Simonds, writing for Time Small Business speaks about the importance for company leaders to be accessible.   In Don’t Play Hard to Get, she speaks about the use of social media, the importance of being readily available for employees and customers, and simply keeping the office door open.
  • If you are interested in selling your small business, now might be a good time to consider it.  Curtis Kroeker, writing for Inc. Magazine, says that cash flow multiples are inching upward, although they are not as high as pre-recession levels.  Read Finally, the Seller’s Market for Small Businesses is Back to learn more.
