Here are this week’s links to a few good stories that we found and selected because we feel they might add valuable insights and perspectives for small to medium size businesses.

  • I’ve held firm to the belief that surrounding one’s self with good people and charging them with directing your company’s vision is imperative if you hope to grow your business. The obvious key part of passing the torch is having the right people to take the hand-off.  JJ Ramberg of MSNBC, in a video posted by Open Forum, speaks to these critical issues. If you hope to grow your business, you can only do so by inspiring the next generation of leaders.
  • Small businesses can take a lesson or two from their larger counterparts when it comes to employee retention, according to  Brad Smith, writer for the Boston Business Journal. In 10 ways to retain your best employees, Smith speaks of the recently released Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list as inspiration of small businesses who might like to be not-so-small someday.
  • Lastly, if small business is truly the engine that drives the economy, the news from the National Federation of Independent Business is encouraging.  Posted by Exabyzness, in Small Business Increased Employment in March, it is pointed out that the small business community created 72,000 jobs last month.  Not bad.
