Here are this week’s links to a few good stories that we found and selected because we feel they might add valuable insights and perspectives for small to medium size businesses.
- How important is it for a small business to offer competitive employee benefits? Plenty according to the 2014 Aflac WorkForces Report. Their data shows that 58% of job-seekers are likely to accept a job with slightly lower compensation that includes better benefits. Accordingly, in How Your Employees Really Feel About Workplace Benefits (posted on the Small Business Trends website), the writer posits that fewer small businesses were planning to reduce benefits in 2014.
- JJ Ramberg of MSNBC in a post on American Express Open Forum suggests five blogs that business owners should pay attention to according to YFS Magazine in 5 Useful Small Business Blogs to Help You Run Your Company. Number three on their list is “The Payroll Blog” where you can “get the latest on taxes…” Great idea. Better still, you should consider partnering with a PEO or at the very least, frequent the Genesis HR Solutions blog.
- Lastly, Joanne Chang, owner/chef at Boston’s The Flour Bakery in a post on the Wall Street Journal website speaks to the challenges of small businesses trying to grow in How to Stay Connected to Your Business’s Original Mission. Her comments are true and mirror what our clients and prospects tell us consistently. She writes “As we’ve grown, I find my time is spent on human resources, marketing initiatives, manager meetings, financial reports – all things that are hugely important to the original goal but can feel very distant when I see a pastry that’s not quite right on the counter or when I hear about a guest who got the wrong order.” Staying connected to your mission is a small business owner’s top priority, and is precisely the reason that we at Genesis HR Solutions stand ready to serve.
