How many of you want to make a difference in your community or in another person’s life? Most people do, but feel this is impossible given the day to day time constraints of work, raising a family and the pressures of life. We all do what we can but many of us feel there is so much more we would like to do if we only had the time.
Timberland understood this and began a program called the “Timberlands Path of Service” which gives employees paid time off to serve. The program started small over twenty years ago and in 2012 they celebrated 20 years of positive change. As outlined on their website, this program has grown beyond their corporate walls to their vendors, distributors, supplier factories, consumers, community members, friends and family and now to organizations like Genesis who after learning about it are inspired to begin a program much like they did 20 years ago.
Financial professionals have historically not approved programs like this because of the cost to the organization but research has shown that the “cost” is far outweighed by the benefits to the recipient of the service, the individual providing the service and the company as a whole. Just imagine how much more engaged your employees would be with such a program in place. Studies show that companies are much stronger with highly engaged employees.
Our team at Genesis HR Solutions is willing to take that chance and will offer each employee 8 hours to follow their own passion of service beginning in 2014. We can’t wait to see how each employee will use their service time.
